About Karambolage

Karambolage is an instrumental trio from Aarhus, Denmark. Their second album SKÆLMSK, released on January 16, 2026 via Moment of Horseplay, is an honest, uncompromising and playful continuation of their 2023 debut Prås.

Untranslatable SKÆLMSK captures the band’s musical ethos, suggesting a kind of mischievous precision; playful but deliberate, smiling on the edge of collapse. The music grins crookedly, yet bites hard. It toys with expectation, with rhythm, with what almost repeats but never quite does.

Recorded live over two intense days at Feedback Studio, Aarhus, SKÆLMSK captures eruptive fuzz, transparent textures, obsessively detailed guitar work and the trio’s telepathic interplay.
There is no click, no grid; only sudden drops and rises in tempo, stretched bars, and a freedom that balances chaos and intention. The music is dynamic and organic, yet meticulously shaped; raw but refined; aesthetic and honest.

Karambolage move along the fault lines between avant-garde post-rock, explosive desert rock, dissonant jazz and progressive doom. The trio’s members are, or have been, active in bands such as Bersærk, Eigengrau and IIIrd Alternative, a shared lineage that feeds into the band’s volatile and tightly focused sound.

On stage, Karambolage have earned a reputation as a powerful and dynamic live act, performing at SPOT Festival, Colossal Weekend and Vinterjazz, and supporting Aiming for Enrike and Astrosaur.

REVIEWS:

Am:plified Mag (DE) 8/10

”Karambolage’s “Prås” is a powerful musical statement that redefines the boundaries of instrumental rock.”

“The rawness and transparency that characterizes this album are admirable. It was recorded in just two live studio sessions, giving the work an unfiltered quality. The music speaks for itself here and leaves room for interpretations and individual impressions.”

“With “Prås” Karambolage proves that instrumental rock is far from having reached the end of its evolution. This album definitely deserves the rating of 8/10 and will delight lovers of sophisticated music. Look forward to September 28th when this extraordinary work will finally be published.” https://amplified-mag.de/index.php/reviews/karambolages-debut-album-pras-eine-explosive-fusion-des-instrumental-rocks

Dargedik Rock Metal Webzine (ES) 9.2/10
– Placed Prås on their top 3 of instrumental albums in 2023

an album provided with groundbreaking instrumental compositions

“I only have praise for an album that has left my brain numb with that atypical structure of disturbing nuances. “Prås” by  karambolage  creates powerful and emotional instrumental songs with great character and overflowing with good technique“.

Slavestate Magazine (SE)

”Through bold enthusiasm, the Aarhus trio explores the emotional expressions that music can give. This is done by combining progressive rock and metal with dissonant noise-jazz and stoner doom in an art-musical way.”Prås” does not contain music for the music’s own sake, but is created at the same moment that the six compositions on the record reach their audience.” “It’s not just the advanced math stoner fusion that grabs one’s immediate interest when an eclectic track like “flab” rolls out of the speakers. It is when Karambolage fishes from its deep well of creativity, and those with an unbroken sense of style capture precisely the specific atmosphere and mood they want to express that they arouse the listener’s true commitment.” http://www.slavestate.se/?e=5659

Metal A Day (DK) – 28/9/23 – 4/5

“The production is lovely on Prås, who with his often dry and heavy sound plays enormously well. The dynamics hits the nail on the head all the way through the album, where you can really enjoy some good and delicious musical variety. The quieter parts of the tracks only increase the intensity when the fuzz kicks in. It suits the band particularly well when this fuzzed intensity kicks in, and the listener really gets some good blows to the head.”

“On “Gryr”, the intensity is replaced with something more acidic and distinctly beautiful, with elements that could almost be taken from more atmospheric black metal. An incredibly well-written song with a good and natural progression. You truly feel the mood in the music not only in “Gryr”, but throughout the entire album, which really deserves multiple listens before it really sets in on your musical mind.” https://metaladay.dk/anmeldelse/velafbalanceret-instrumental-debut/

DPRP.net (US)

The last time I had an occasion to check (five minutes ago), Aarhus is 8662 km away from Phoenix. Which surprised me, as the debut album from Karambolage could have easily come from the Arizona capital as from the Danish city. Prås lives in the space between those two places. Moving through stoner rock into post-rock with ease, Prås is a great deep headphone listen“. https://www.dprp.net/reviews/2023/087#karambolage

Legacy Magazine (DE) 8/15

”It is a purely instrumental album, which can be described as stoner jazz improvisation. The accomplished musicians give their compositions freedom and give each instrument the opportunity to breathe and develop. It’s like sitting in the rehearsal room with the guys at a jam session. It sounds incredibly authentic.”

“It is a sometimes complex journey through a musical cosmos from the perspective of the protagonists. They let themselves drift and let the music take its course. Everything seems coherent and natural.” (PRINT)

GFR (DK)

“It’s so cool that somebody’s taking up this challenge, and Karambolage really gets a lot out of the sound that the trio has established. Because, what do you do when you don’t have lyrics? You vary. Make riffs/grooves. Create contrasts. Karambolage does all of this with a sure hand”

”Lots of fat effect, lots of chopping movements stop-and-go feeling, atonality and finally hint of a riff.

The guitar hits like a fierce battle ax with chops to the right and left – chaotic and yet super controlled at the same time. Not a number written to please the listener, but very effective.” https://www.gfrock.dk/karambolage-praas-album-anmeldelse/

Grind on The Road (IT) 7,5/10

”The pilgrimage is over, the sun has risen, our sorrows have been atoned for. Oscillating between more delicate moments and other more distorted ones, between more enlightened moments and others less so, we can confidently state that the Danish trio has managed to shape a more than good debut album” https://grindontheroad.com/2023/09/10/karambolage-pras/
